JCRC Update on the Gaza Situation
As the situation in Gaza continues to unfold, the JCRC remains in touch with American, Israeli and other sources and is updated regularly. We have released a statement supporting the people of Israel and are urging elected officials, leaders and other influentials throughout the region to express their support for Israel, defend its right to use military force to protect its citizens, and to hold Hamas responsible for the escalation in violence.
We are in a moment in which the mettle of our communal character is being tested. Many of us have seen with our own eyes the physical and psychological effects of the attacks from Hamas on the people of Sederot and Netivot. Israel’s restraint and willingness to use economic means to end the Hamas carnage has demonstrated more forbearance than any nation could be expected to show.
Our job, as lovers of Israel and lovers of peace, is to make sure that the U.S. Government and American public opinion remain firmly on the side of what is right and just.
There are many in the world who would have Israel operate under a double standard. They do not give Israel the same right to defend her citizens that they would demand from their own governments. Please click here to read a letter from Ehud Olmert, expressing his gratitude o the Jewish Communities of the World for their support of the Israeli people at this difficult time.
