“Israel @ 60”Community Mission: 3 Months Away and Nearly Sold Out

It’s not quite time to pack, but more than 150 local residents from all over the community are excitedly preparing for the community-wide “Israel @ 60” Mission on November 15-23, which is sponsored by the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. There are now less than 10 rooms left - a unique opportunity for a few more participants who have not yet signed up to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience. More>>
 
EL AL will discontinue its nonstop flights from MIA to TLV

We would like to inform you that as of September 1, 2008 EL AL will discontinue its nonstop flights from MIA to TLV. In the next few days, EL AL will do its utmost to re-accommodate existing bookings on a leading domestic carrier which will connect to a nonstop EL AL flight from NYC (JFK/EWR) to TLV. As of September 2, 2008 the new code share agreement with AA will come into place providing an excellent solution for passengers originating in South Florida. All nonstop flights departing Miami during the summer will operate as planned! More>>

Picture the idealistic kibbutz of yore. What comes to mind is a circle of young Israeli pioneers in shorts and open-necked shirts, dancing the hora with Zionist zeal.

It's not that the British pioneers of Kibbutz Lavi didn't dance the hora, but when these Bnei Akiva kibbutzniks wanted to show that their community was a fact on the ground in 1966, they built a shul, with pews and an ark constructed by two members who were amateur carpenters. Nine months and counting, the already expanded “Israel @ 60” Mission planned by the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County is nearly sold out.  Although the Mission is not until November 15-23, deposits are in for all but a few rooms. With travel to Israel so popular this year, it’s unlikely more rooms will become available, so sign up now for the last few slots. More>>

urgent needs urgent needs
It's hard to reach Amir Peleg, even by cell phone. But given his role as a medic in Ashdod, Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) ambulance corps it's a forgivable excuse. Since moving from New York, where he volunteered as an EMT and fireman, to Israel in January 2009, Amir has been volunteering with MDA. He came to Israel during Operation Cast Lead, when life in Ashdod was radically halted because of the incoming the Kassam missiles from Gaza. After seeing the crisis unfold across southern Israel, he felt Israel "needed him more than ever."
