Yes, wife of Vice President Hubert Humphrey. Known for his long speech making, she once gently grabbed him by the sleeve and said: “Hubert, to be immortal –you don’t have to be eternal.” Short in extent but long in content is the speech uttered by Moses as he was speaking truth-to-power in Pharaoh’s court: “Let my people go.” These words were a proverbial ‘shot heard ‘round the world.’ When Martin Luther King Jr. gave his Nobel lecture in Oslo in 1964, he said, “Let my people go is a kind of opening chapter in a continuing story. The present struggle in the United States is a later chapter in the same unfolding story.” Indeed, as Heine suggested, all liberation movements are “spoken with a Hebrew accent.”...
