Volunteer Resource Center

The Volunteer Resource Center is an important part of the Jewish Federation of  South Palm Beach County.  Throughout the year we recruit and place many volunteers who help to  fulfill the needs of Jewish Federation and its beneficiary agencies.

Several people have become volunteers for the Friendly Visitors program at the Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service.  As volunteers, they made social visits to homebound seniors.  These compassionate visits provide companionship for the elderly on a weekly basis throughout the year.  Also many people have desired to become a grandparent to a child who may not have their own grandparent in the area.  These volunteers are happy to give a little love and attention to children who have this special need. 

What would a Federation without a food pantry?  Over 30 volunteers at the Foster Family Kosher Food  Pantry  at  Jewish Family Service have volunteered this year to bag and deliver food to the needy in Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Highland Beach.  More volunteers are needed to accomplish this vital service.  Volunteers find it rewarding and gratifying to fulfill this task especially at Rosh Hashana and Passover. 

Is Jewish culture an interest to you?  Then look no further than the Adolf and Rose Levis Jewish Community Center’s Nathan D. Rosen Gallery’s docent program.  Many people have been recruited to act as docents for the gallery.  This is a fun opportunity to learn about various artists and their outstanding exhibits.  The first exhibit of this season is “Golden Treasures of My Heart” by Rebecca Schweiger – an internationally renowned contemporary painter who works in watercolors, oils and graphics – an exhibit not to be missed. 

Federation assists students with special needs.  For example, at Hillel Day School, one of Federation’s beneficiary agencies, volunteers have been recruited to help children improve their reading skills.  Teenagers who must complete community service hours for graduation have a wonderful opportunity to satisfy their requirement by volunteering with our Federation.
 
Make the new year of 5772 a new beginning.  Contribute your time and enthusiasm to volunteer for Jewish Federation of   South Palm Beach County.  Tzedakah  and volunteerism are linked together.  Both actions are the essence of Jewish responsibility to aid those in need.  You will marvel at the satisfaction of connecting to Jewish Federation.   

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES LISTED BELOW:

ADOLPH & ROSE LEVIS JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER THRIFT SHOP
Duties:
- receive, sort, hang donations (clothes), sell, maintain merchandise
- organize clothes, housewares, etc.
- volunteers should be in good physical condition
Skills:
- ability to communicate well
- high physical energy
- a lot of standing and bending
Benefits:
- You can receive discounts on thrift shop merchandise
- Your volunteeer participation helps provide social services for the Jewish Community in Boca Raton, Delray Beach and the surrounding areas.

BBYO (Jewish Community Organization & Jewish Youth Leadership Network)
- Chapter Advisors needed to mentor people relating to chapter programs/meetings on a weekly basis for two hours. A minimum committment of one year of service is required.

CAMPAIGN (Jewish Federation of SPBC)
- Volunteer positions in the Federation Campaign Department to prepare information packets, stuff envelopes, etc.
- These positions are needed to support our active Campaign Department with their many fundraising events in the community.
- Volunteers will be called as needed.

CULTURAL ARTS - ROSEN MUSEUM GALLERY
- Clerical assistance to the director, good computer and telephone skills (frequency - two times a week)
- Docents for the Rosen Museum Gallery - good communication skills, an appreciation for art

MAILROOM (Jewish Federation of SPBC)
- Stuff material in a sequential order
- Ability to read and comprehend what is written

JCC - ALZHEIMER'S DAY CARE CENTER
- Assist in recreational therapy for the clients
- Ability to do arts and crafts, play games, entertain
- Knitters needed
- Experience with dementia/Alzheimer's patients

RUTH RALES JEWISH FAMILY SERVICE (Click Here to View All Volunteering Opportunities)
- Drivers for clients who need to attend doctors appointments and/or shopping
- Friendly Visitors for homebound clients in Boca Raton/Delray Beach, once a week
