The Pomegranate Program
One of the seven fruits named in the Bible, the pomegranate is said to contain 613 seeds, one for each of the mitzvot or commandments found in the Torah. The ancient symbol was carved in the entranceways of the earliest synagogues, woven into fabrics, and hammered into silver and gold. The intricate covers for the handles of the Torah scrolls are called “rimonim” or pomegranates. Each woman making a $1,800 annual commitment may purchase the beautiful sterling silver pin for $150. By wearing this symbol, we are reminded of the Jewish lives we have improved, rescued and renewed. But, even more, it reminds us of the work that is yet to be done. Pomegranate Prestige The Pomegranate giving level honors women who contribute between $1,800 - $4,999 to the Federation’s Annual Campaign for Jewish Needs, and gives them the opportunity to purchase the gorgeous Pomegranate pin for $150. The pomegranate is mentioned in the Torah and is an Israeli fruit whose 613 seeds are said to represent the 613 “mitzvot.” It is an ancient symbol found carved into the lintels of the earliest synagogues. In fact, the intricate covers for the handles of the Torah scrolls are called “rimonim” or pomegranates. By wearing the stunning Pomegranate sterling pin replica, we are reminded of the Jewish lives we have improved, rescued and renewed. But, we are also ever mindful of the work that is yet to be done.
