Thousands of South Palm Beach County residents of all ages will once again stand together in solidarity and spirit, hear top quality live music, enjoy flags and falafel, and share in joyous celebration ofYom Ha’Atzmaut,Israel’s Independence Day. “Israel Under The Stars, the free annual community-wide celebration presented by the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, returns to commemorateIsrael’s 64 years of statehood on Thursday evening,April 26, 2012.

For a second year, the ruach will emanate from Sunset Cove Amphitheater at South County Regional Park, 12551 Glades Road, in Boca Raton (2.5 miles west of US 441/SR 7). While the formal program will begin at 6:00 pm, the park will open at 4:30 pmwith activities for the whole family beginning at 5:00 pm.Kosher food and beverages will be available for purchase. More than 4,000 celebrated at “Israel Under the Stars” in 2011, and the event organizers expect even more this year.

This year’s top notch entertainment will be provided by the internationally popular Sam Glaser “a joyful, up-on-your-feet, feel good experience of the highest quality;” by Brett Loewenstern, an American Idol Season 10 semifinalist who brought the crowd to their feet and to tears last year; and by Todd Herzog, “an acoustic, spiritual pop music writer and performer along the lines of John Mayer, Jason Mraz and Marc Cohn.”

Students from local day schools and synagogue religious schools will also perform, with a pre-program live band, a traditional Daglanut Israeli flag routine, Israeli folk dancing, and a chamber trio, as well as singing selections with Sam Glaser onstage. Bringing Israel directly to the event, a group of talented students from Kiryat Bialik, South Palm Beach County’s Sister City in Israel, will also join in. Pastor Tye Riter of Calvary Chapel West Boca Raton will be part of the program for a second year.

“For a few hours on Israel Independence Day, we’ll be transported to the sights, sounds and tastes ofIsrael,” said Rabbi David Steinhardt, Honorary Chair of “Israel Under the Stars” and Chair of the JCRC, who will serve as emcee. “This continues to be the largest annual event produced by our Jewish Federation, drawing together all elements of our Jewish community and people of all faiths. South Palm Beach County will once again demonstrate that we are united in recognizing the importance of the alliance between Israel and the United States, and in celebrating how much Israel has achieved in such a short period of time.”

In fact, eleven local day schools and synagogue religious schools at individual booths will be letting everyone know just how much Israel has achieved, innovated and helped, making a positive impact in so many fields throughout the globe. Visitors of all ages strolling from one exhibit to the next will marvel and kvell as they learn.

Lawn chairs, blankets, picnic baskets and strollers are welcome, and limited seating will be set up. The event will take place rain or shine. Plenty of complimentary self-parking will be available. All park entrances will be open, early arrival is strongly advised. For more information, please call 561-852-6090 or visit
