Thousands Stand Strong at Israel Under the Stars in Sunset Cove (April 26, 2012)
Thousands of South Palm Beach County residents of all ages and backgrounds once again stood together in a joyous and deeply moving demonstration of support for Israel in celebration of the State of Israel’s 64th anniversary. Our community expressed its pride in the extraordinary achievements of this small nation in such a short period of time. Exhibits from eleven local congregational and day schools clearly established the contributions made by Israel throughout the world, through its humanitarian aid, technological innovation, medical advances and so much more.
Students from our day schools and our congregational schools, as well as visiting teens from our Sister City Kiryat Bialik in Israel, helped lead the ruach, participating amid performances by professional entertainers Sam Glaser, former American Idol Semi-finalist Brett Loewenstern and Todd Herzog. Rabbi David Steinhardt, JCRC Chair; Pastor Tye Riter of Calvary West Boca; and Betty Kane, Chair of the Jewish Federation’s Israel & Overseas Committee, also addressed the very enthusiastic crowd. Pastor Tye conveyed expressions of support from his colleagues and congregants. As the public advocacy and social action voice of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) coordinated the work of many volunteer and professional leaders of our Federation in producing Israel Under the Stars, which is traditionally our Jewish community’s largest annual event. The sights, sounds and tastes of Israel were brought to the public free of charge, thanks in large part to the generosity of Presenting Sponsor GL Homes, and Bronze Sponsor TD Bank. |
