Federation Chair Ellen R. Sarnoff and JCRC Chair Rabbi David Steinhardt join with our Jewish family and communities across the globe in celebrating the release of captured soldier Gilad Shalit, more than five years after his abduction by Hamas terrorists. They also recognize that the utmost importance of Gilad's return led Israel's leaders to make supremely difficult choices for his release.

On August 18, terrorists launched a deadly series of attacks near Eilat in southern Israel, killing at least seven and wounding more than twenty. The Federation unites with our Jewish family in grief. We rise together in outrage and call on the international community to join in condemnation of these brutal attacks by terrorists who seek to destabilize the region.

The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County have recognized several Southeast Florida leaders for outstanding service. Ofer Bavly, the Israeli Consul General to Florida and Puerto Rico, Deputy Consul General Paul Hirschson, State Senator Ellyn Bogdanoff, State Representative Mack Bernard and Bernie Friedman, Esq. received awards at a special JCRC reception on June 13, 2011 on the Federation campus.

Leaders of the Jewish Community Relations Councils (JCRCs) of Jewish Federations of Palm Beach County and South Palm Beach County have hailed the Florida legislature’s unanimous passage of the “Scrutinized Companies” bill, which will become law on July 1, 2011.  The new law adds to Florida’s groundbreaking 2007 legislation, significantly strengthening the state’s divestment from companies that invest with Iran and Sudan.
