SCHOOL PRAYER BILL CS/SB 0098 (03/23/2012)

A Bill to allow student-organized prayer at public school events has passed in the Florida Senate and has been signed by Governor Rick Scott. Senate Prayer Bill CS/SB 0098 Bill will empower County School Districts to decide how and when students in their public schools could lead public prayer at school events such as sporting events, concerts, and commencement ceremonies. It would even permit prayer at mandatory events like student assemblies. The prayer would have to be initiated by students, and faculty or staff could not participate in the planning of the message.
 
We urge you to take a stand against this Bill!

Advocate against it with members of Palm Beach County School District: urge Board members of the School District to opt out of the implementation of the Bill if/when given that option.
 
Our JCRC maintains this Bill is inappropriate and contrary to longstanding policies which call for the separation of church and state. Please keep us informed of your outreach/advocacy efforts. Thank you.
