Department of Jewish EducationThe Department of Jewish Education is the central address of Jewish Educational Community. By its collective efforts the Department of Jewish Education develops strategies and provides educational enrichment opportunities for all segments of the Jewish Community and its institutions. Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County's Department of Jewish Education creates a vibrant spirit to strengthen Jewish life in the community and to promote and support the future of a learning community. If you’re looking for more information about Jewish learning and living in south county, you’ve come to the right place. Dear Community Friend and Fellow Student, When Shai Agnon, Israel's first Nobel laureate delivered his oration to the world in 1966, he proudly and passionately declared: "Though I was born in one of the lands of the exile, I have always considered myself as having been born in Jerusalem." May I be so bold: All of us were born in Jerusalem. She is the focus of our deepest yearnings and aspirations. Our Jewish GPS is aligned toward her in particular, and toward Israel in general. But being proud and solicitous of her - as noble as this is, is not enough. It is necessary, but in today's world where Israel is still roundly condemned and the Jewish right to live safely and securely are still routinely challenged, it is not sufficient. We all need to be more informed and literate about the Jewish heritage of and claim to this land if we are to be effective and cogent advocates for her.
I invite you to participate in this Israel Engagement Series collated from materials and scholars of one of Jewry's premier educational organizations, The Hartman Institute. This series is being faciliated and locally taught by two of our community's eminent rabbis and teachers. Please see the attached brochure only if you are desirous of becoming more literate and informed, proud and passionate about Israel. Am Yisrael Chai.
Kol Tuv and Warmest Regards,
Rabbi David Gutterman
Director, DJE
