For thirteen years the Jewish Education Commission (JEC) of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County (JFSPBC) has been the central address for local Jewish education, strengthening Jewish life and learning among all ages. On March 2 at 6:30 pm, the JEC will observe its Bar Mitzvah year with an anniversary gala "Honoring Our Community Heroes in Jewish Education” at B’nai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton.

“For the first time, every educational institution under our local JEC umbrella will be recognizing their heroes in one event. Selected through their own synagogues and schools, 25 dedicated volunteers will be recognized for their commitments to making Jewish learning, continuity and growth a highest priority in South Palm Beach County,” said Ilene Wohlgemuth, JEC Chair. “Together, we will honor them as we celebrate and renew our commitment to Jewish education. I could not be more proud.”

 

Spanning the full range of JEC’s involvement in the community, the honorees serve in Jewish preschools, day schools and congregational schools, and in Holocaust and adult education. They also include teen leaders of Jewish Forum groups at seven local high schools.

 

Representing the full vibrant diversity of the local Jewish community, hundreds of residents will be gathered for this milestone. Gala Co-chairs Alisa Cohen, Renee Nadel and Jill Rose, Honorary Chair Dorothy Seaman and their committee extend this invitation to all who value and wish to support Jewish education.

“If we are truly the People of the Book, we are obligated to teach our children - and, more importantly, to teach our adults,” said Seaman. “Therefore, it is our responsibility to see that Jewish education for all ages is made available in our community. That is why the JEC is the most important agency to see that this is accomplished. By attending the JEC Gala and by showing your financial support for the JEC, together we can make this happen.”

 

To further identify and meet South Palm Beach County’s Jewish education needs, during its Bar Mitzvah year, the JEC has been taking stock and preparing for the community’s future learning, by embarking on an intensive strategic planning process with area synagogues, schools and agencies.  

 

The couvert for the Jewish Education Commission Bar Mitzvah Year Gala is $180 per person. Dietary laws will be observed.
